Food products intended for special diet for which European and national
legislation has laid down special provisions are, up to now, as follows:
- Preparations for newborns and later feeding (Royal Decree 867/2008): for healthy newborns from
birth to the introduction of complementary food
- Food based on cereals, and baby and infant food (Royal Decree 490/1998): intended for babies being
weaned and infants, as a complement to their diet or for gradual adaptation to
normal food
- Food products intended for use in low-calorie diets for weight loss (Royal Decree 1430/1997)
- Dietetic food intended for special medical use (Royal Decree 1091/2000)
- Food products for persons with gluten intolerance (Consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No
41/2009)
- Regulation 41/2009 on the composition and labelling of food products
suitable for persons with gluten intolerance urges Member States to carry out
information campaigns on the characteristics of various products found on the
market. Within these activities, AESAN has prepared a pamphlet on “Food suitable for persons with intolerance to gluten”,
giving a simple description of products aimed at this group.
