Zoonoses or anthropozoonoses is defined as the disease or infection that is transmitted from animals to man, and vice versa, in a direct or indirect manner.

Spain as a European Union member participates in a common system of measures for protection against specified zoonoses and zoonotic agents that are transmitted from animals to humans through food.

These measures are based primarily on two aspects:

  •  A system of monitoring and reporting of zoonoses and zoonotic agents.
  • Some control programs, control and eradication of certain zoonoses in animals.
