22/01/2010

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) was informed on 20 January by SCIRI, the national alert network, of a case of an allergic reaction due to the consumption of the product Damira 2000 (400 g container, batch number 18309698, and use-by date 28.10.2011). This product should not contain complete milk proteins since it is intended for use by children with allergy or intolerance to these. However, the company informed the Catalan Authorities that casein and lactoglobulin were detected in significant quantities in this batch.

On a national level, regional governmental authorities were informed of the situation via the national food alert network, as was the Commission via RASFF, as well as allergy associations and the General Council of the Official Pharmacist Association, since the product in question is sold exclusively in pharmacies.

The manufacturer has announced that current stocks of the affected product will blocked at stores and that wholesalers and pharmacies have been instructed to withdraw the product from sale.

Nevertheless, as a further safety measure, the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition recommends that, in cases where it has already been purchased, children who are allergic to milk proteins should not be given said product, (Damira 2000, 400 g container, batch No 18309698, and use-by date 28.10.2011).
