AESAN in Guatemala

The 15 and 16 July saw the fifth edition of MANUFEXPORT, an event organised by the Guatemalan Exporters’ Association (AGEXPORT), aimed at promoting greater competitiveness in the Central American industrial sector and at expanding market opportunities on an international scale.

The event took place at the Cerro Santo Domingo Convention Centre, Hotel Casa Santo Domingo, Antigua Guatemala. There was an exhibition organised to complement the lectures, which included companies involved in the manufacture of food, drinks, plastics and cleaning products. In addition, representatives from the supermarket chains took this opportunity to meet with the country’s industrial sector.

The President of the Republic, Álvaro Colom, attended the opening ceremony, where the President of the Organising Committee, Carlos Barillas, thanked all concerned for their hard work and dedication in organising and designing this important event, which is of great help to businesses in the various specific sectors, as they try to place their products in different strategic markets and increase their knowledge of the current marketing norms and regulations. During his address, he also thanked speakers who had travelled to Guatemala from the United States, Great Britain, Spain, the Dominican Republic and Central America for their interest and their contributions to the various issues dealt with during the Congress, mentioning each of them by name in his speech. The Ministry for Health and Social Policy was represented by Juan Julián García Gómez, Executive Advisor to the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN), who presented a talk titled: “Applying risk analysis to Food Safety”.
