The AESAN took part in the “2nd Workshop on Food Safety: Technologies and innovations applied to food safety”.

The workshop took place in Valencia in the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA), part of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC).

The event brought together around 90 participants and included more than 80 scientific presentations. It was organised by the Food Safety Working Group (CIGR) in partnership with the Spanish Food Safety Network (SICURA). The aim of the workshop was to discuss the various issues relating to the importance of food safety as a key factor affecting human health.

Represented at the meeting were the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN), the industrial sector (the Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation - FIAB and production and service industries) and Science, Education and Research institutions from Europe (Germany, Spain and Italy), Oceania (Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia), Africa (Zimbabwe) and the Americas (Canada, Brazil and Chile). The attendees shared their experiences and discussed proposals for ensuring the safety of food produced throughout the world and for planning joint initiatives.

The main theme of the event was the focus on innovations in the industry and the use of new technologies in food safety. The line-up saw 31 national and international speakers debate pressing issues related to new technologies and innovations in food safety.
