Under the auspices of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, the 8th Meeting between Focal Points and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) will take place at the AESAN headquarters on 5 and 6 May, 2010.

AESAN is EFSA’s Focal Point in Spain. Its role is to act as a point of contact between EFSA and the various national food safety authorities, research institutions, consumers and other stake-holders. Its primary aim is to support the members of EFSA’s Advisory Forum. Its functions include ensuring the exchange of scientific information between EFSA and EU Member States, building communication networks and improving EFSA’s visibility. In addition, the Focal Points must help in the compilation of National Scientific Expert Databases.

Issues to be discussed at the meeting to be held at the AESAN headquarters include the information exchange platform, EFSA’s network of collaborative organisations and EFSA scientific opinions.
