Yesterday the Secretary General for Health and Consumer Affairs, Pilar Farja, visited the facilities of Mercadona.

The Mercadona Delegation was led by Juan Antonio Germán, responsible for External Relations, accompanied by Luis Pla, quality director, Ignacio García Magarzo, director of ASEDAS, the Spanish Association for Distributors, Self-service stores and Supermarkets (ASEDAS), and the managers of the platform located in Ciempozuelos (Madrid).

From the Spanish Agency of Food Safety and Nutrition, of which Pilar Farjas is also president, joined the group Julian Garcia Gomez, technical adviser of AESAN.

The logistic platform located in Ciempozuelos (Madrid) employs more than seven hundred people and takes an area of approximately 200 000 square meters. It shows a high degree of automatisation on the daily preparation of pallets, which eliminates the overworking of employees and consequently reduces the risk of work-related accidents.

In the strategic guidelines of Mercadona exists a clear tendency towards innovation, technology development and training of employees, promoting the culture of effort.

Besides there is a space reserved for the children of employees and used as a learning centre with more than 100 children.
